We invite you to share those stories with us so we can share them to encourage others.

MARKERS OF DISCIPLESHIP

The mission of Westport Road Baptist Church is to Love God and Love People by:

Cultivating Christ-Changed Lives Across All Generations and in all Places

To achieve this mission there are six discipleship markers that we would like to see in the lives of all of our church family. Our hope is not just that you can recall a story from your past in each of these areas, but that you are continuing to create stories in each one as you grow as a disciple of Jesus.

Each of these markers are a story that you can tell about your personal walk with God. Hopefully, developing your stories will give you confidence to continue your journey with God and inspire others in theirs as we all seek CCL (Christ-Changed Lives)!
First Things First
Story One
The number one thing all Christians need to be centering on in their faith is their relationship with God. Jesus said, that in a relationship with God, to “love the Lord your God with all of your heart, and with all of your soul and with all of your mind” is the greatest commandment (Matthew 22:37-38). To truly be in relationship with God we need to prioritize prayer, bible study and worship.
Hand to Hand
Story Two
The second thing Jesus emphasizes in Matthew 22:39 is to “love your neighbor as yourself.” This is the second great commandment. The way that we love one another is a sign that we are children of God. This goes beyond being friendly to people and really living and sharing life together.
Walk the Walk
Story Three
Every Christian has been gifted by God to serve Him and the church. I Corinthians 12:7 says, “To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” We all have gifts that God expects us to use. You will never be fulfilled in your faith until you are using your gifts, through the church, to serve God and others.
Blessing to Blessing
Story Four
God has blessed all of us in our lives and we are called to be stewards of those blessings. Consider all God has blessed you with: your family, money, possessions, and home, and how you are using those things to bless others. Proverbs 3:9 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your crops.”
Talk the Talk
Story Five
It is great that God is in your life and that you are saved, but one of the main responsibilities of any Christian is to share the good news with the people in our lives. This begins with our family and friends and stretches out to all of our acquaintances, co-workers or people God puts in our path in a divine encounter. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go and make disciples of all nations…”
Joy to Joy
Story Six
A CCL (Christ Changed Life) will be seen in the joy that we have in our everyday lives. Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
